Know Your Value. You Deserve it.

Know Your Value. You Deserve it.

Given the state of everything that is going on in this world right now, there is one thing I am sure of: we need to take care of ourselves more than ever. We are tired and worn. It is time we know our value.

Either you are cooped up in your house with family members, roommates you don't like, or working day to day because you're considered an essential employee. This is the time to remember your value, and why you should take care of yourself.

Before COVID-19, you would hear about self-care from either a friend, a blog, YouTube, or some other form of media, and knew that you should implement it. You would tell yourself, "Oh, yea, that's a good idea". But how often would you actually do it?

Hitting Burn Out

There comes a time where we hit empty in our gas tanks. It's called burn out. Sounds familiar? The biggest cause of this is when we, as human beings, tend to focus so much on what's going on, and keep doing what we believe "has" to get done, to the point where we forget to take care of ourselves.

We've all have done this, and have forgotten the value of our lives. Me? I can remember having four jobs, being a full time college student, and having a relationship that was falling apart. There would be nights where I had only three hours of sleep and was sobbing while doing homework simply because I forgot about myself. I was running on an empty tank.

That is one of the more extreme examples.

You can forget about your own value in even the simplest of ways. You might be refusing to eat dinner until after you are finished cleaning off all of the surfaces in your living room. That may take awhile, and by that point, you are snapping at your roommate or partner due to the evil hangry monster lurking in the pit of your stomach. Remembering your value every day is essential to a healthy self.

Showing value to yourself is a form of self-care.

The first step doing this is by putting yourself first. We are going to start off with a baby step. Take this moment you are in right now and think "What am I feeling?". Address it. Instead of holding in your bladder until you finish creating your perfect dream house in The Sims, go take care of yourself!

This is the gateway to true self-care. If you don't put down your foot down and take care of yourself, then how do you expect to fill your tank? You can take care of your sims later.

A simple term for this is called intuition. Intuition is key. It is being able to read yourself and eventually help you dive into your true ambitions and desires. Displaying intuition is telling others that you know your value - you are important and deserve to take care of yourself.

Now, let's go a step further. Grab your notebook and a pen. I want you to spend two minutes on this and make a list of what would fill your tank up. Whether it is getting out your paints, going for a walk, or taking a well deserved bath.

Write down things that will make you happy, either haven't done in awhile or would want to try. Don't be afraid to spend longer on this if need be. This list can show you your inner most desires. Take the plunge. You deserve it.

Once you've finished, highlight two of them on the list; the first one would be the easiest you could almost every day. The simplest one is another stepping stone after learning about intuition. It is the start of implementing. Knowing what you want is one thing, while actually doing it is giving yourself power to conquer your day.

Take it a step further and make a difference in your life.

Conquer your day and even your week by showing you know your value.
Now the other you would highlight would be one that requires a little more time from your day. Painting would fit under this category, and so would riding your bike several miles through the park. These are some examples, not to get in the way of your own ideas, but to simply assist you.

The simplest one for me is putting on my favorite lipstick in the morning. While the main goal for the week is taking a nice bubble bath at night. It may not be easy at first, but I can guarantee doing these things will make you feel accomplished and looking at life in a new perspective.

Having these as goals with a deadline of end of the week will help make a change in your life for the better. This is meant to help you. It is okay to forget at times to do these steps. Try again, and remind your mind that you deserve this.

Continue picking one or two more from the list each week, and compare how you felt before you took time to put yourself first in your life. It might be a good idea to journal this or even make a short comparison list if you aren't into writing a lot. These comparisons will tell you how far you've come, and will remind you of what you can conquer once you put your mind to it.

Self-care can only take place when you admit you are special and know your own value.

We can get through this. Continue to implement self-care. This is the time to take care of yourself for a better you and a better life.
